Privacy Policy

Last updated: [date]

Draft — not legal advice. This is a plain-language draft tailored to Astrove. Have a lawyer review and complete every [bracketed] item before launch, especially the data-collection specifics, sub-processors, and jurisdiction.

This policy explains what information Astrove collects, why, and what choices you have. We aim to collect as little as we can and to be clear about the rest.

Who we are

Astrove ([legal entity, e.g. “Astrove, Inc.”], “Astrove”, “we”, “us”) operates the astrove.tv website and the Astrove ad-insertion service. We provide schedule-based ad insertion for the screens venues already run. For any privacy question, email hello@astrove.tv. Our registered address is [postal address].

The short version

We collect the little we need to run the service and pay venues, we’re clear about what that is, we don’t sell your data, and — importantly — the standard Astrove pod has no camera and no computer vision: it follows a schedule and does not watch your room or record what plays on your screens. Venues may optionally add a measurement camera — permission-only, aggregate-only, and never identifying anyone.

Information we collect

Information you give us. When you contact us or request a demo we collect what you submit: name, email, business name, your role (venue / advertiser / other), the number of TVs you run, an optional budget range, and any message. If you create an account to manage venues, we collect account details via our sign-in provider [auth provider].

Information from the pods. Each pod reports proof-of-play records — what ad played, on which screen/venue, and when — plus basic device-health and schedule-sync telemetry so we can keep it running and pay venues accurately. The pod does not capture, record, or transmit the content on your screen.

Information collected automatically. On the website we use privacy-friendly analytics to understand aggregate usage, and Cloudflare (including the Turnstile widget) for security and spam prevention. We store a small theme preference in your browser’s local storage. [Confirm exact analytics provider and whether any cookies are set.]

Audience measurement (optional). Astrove may offer two venue setups: (1) standard pod with no audience camera; (2) optional measurement camera, installed only with venue permission, to estimate aggregate audience counts, broad age ranges, gender presentation estimates, and screen-facing attention during ad play windows.

What we do NOT collect

The standard Astrove pod does not use cameras or computer vision and does not record, store, or analyse the video, audio, or content playing on your screens. Venues may optionally add a measurement camera — permission-only and aggregate-only. Your streaming source passes through the pod to your TV untouched; on a set schedule, the pod briefly shows our own short, silent ad and then returns to your content. We do not collect biometric data, and we do not surveil or identify the people in your venue.

We do not identify individual customers, store raw video for advertising reports, sell individual-level data, record audio, or use facial recognition to identify a person. Measurement reports are aggregated at venue/campaign level.

How we use information

We use the information above to provide and operate the service; to schedule ads and report plays; to calculate and pay each venue’s revenue share; to respond to inquiries and demos; to keep the service secure and prevent fraud and abuse; to improve and develop the product; and to comply with our legal obligations.

Legal bases (where GDPR/UK GDPR applies)

Where applicable, we rely on: performance of a contract (operating the service and paying venues); our legitimate interests (security, fraud prevention, product improvement, responding to your inquiries); your consent (where required, e.g. certain analytics or marketing); and compliance with legal obligations. You can withdraw consent at any time.

How we share information

We share information only as needed to run the service, and we never sell or rent it:

  • Service providers / sub-processors — hosting and edge infrastructure [Cloudflare], email [provider], authentication [provider], payments [provider], and analytics — each under contract and permitted to use the data only to provide their service to us.
  • Advertisers receive delivery and proof-of-play reporting (what ran, where, and when) — not the personal data of venue staff or customers.
  • Legal and safety — when required by law or to protect rights, safety, and the integrity of the service.
  • Business transfers — in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with notice consistent with this policy.

Cookies & similar technologies

We use strictly-necessary technologies (the Turnstile security widget and a local-storage theme preference) and privacy-friendly analytics. [Confirm whether any non-essential cookies are used and, if so, provide a consent mechanism and the means to opt out.]

Data retention

We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above — for example, for the life of your account and for [period] afterward, and proof-of-play and payment records for [period] to support billing, audit, and legal requirements. We then delete or anonymise it. [Confirm exact periods with counsel.]

Your rights & choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, port, or restrict the processing of your personal information, and to object to certain uses. Under the CCPA/CPRA you may request to know, delete, or correct your information and opt out of any “sale” or “sharing” — we do not sell your information — and we will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights. To make a request, email hello@astrove.tv. We may need to verify your identity first.

International transfers

We may process and store information in [country/region]. Where we transfer personal information across borders, we use appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses. [Confirm with counsel based on where Astrove and its sub-processors operate.]

Children

Astrove is a business service and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under [16/13]. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We protect information with encryption in transit, access controls, vendor due diligence, and edge-backed infrastructure. The pod stores its schedule locally and reports over secured connections. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and to notify you and the authorities of any breach as required by law.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product and the law evolve. We’ll post the new version here and update the “last updated” date, and we’ll provide additional notice for material changes.

Questions, requests, or concerns? Email hello@astrove.tv or write to [legal entity], [postal address]. [If serving the EU/UK, add your Data Protection Officer or EU/UK representative details here.]

We don’t sell your data. We collect what we need to run the service and pay you, and nothing we set out to collect from the pod includes the content playing on your screen.
